How to Choose an AI Video Generator

The best AI video generator is the one whose input, duration, motion, audio, and cost match the shot you need. A model leaderboard cannot make that production decision for you.

Start with the input

Text-to-video is useful when composition can be discovered from the prompt. Image-to-video is better when a product, character, wardrobe, or first frame must remain recognizable. Video-to-video is the right category when motion or timing already exists and the goal is to restyle or transform it.

  • Text only: fastest way to explore a scene
  • Start image: stronger visual continuity
  • Start and end frames: more control over the transition
  • Source video: preserve motion while changing appearance

Compare delivery constraints

Check supported duration and resolution before evaluating style. A beautiful five-second result is not a substitute for a required 15- or 30-second shot. Native audio can reduce assembly work, but separate voice, music, and effects may offer more editorial control.

  • Required aspect ratio and resolution
  • Minimum and maximum clip length
  • Native dialogue, sound effects, or music
  • Generation speed and credit cost
  • Reference-image and motion-control support

Use a shot-based workflow

Write one prompt per intentional shot: subject, action, environment, camera, lighting, timing, and sound. Generate a draft at the lowest useful cost, review identity and motion, then spend on the delivery model only after the shot design works. Halo's catalog exposes these constraints before generation.

  • Define the shot and success criteria
  • Choose a model from required capabilities
  • Draft and inspect continuity
  • Generate the final delivery tier
  • Save the result and reuse it as a reference
